There are moments in life that a camera cannot fully capture the beauty or power of a scene; cannot speak of what the naked eye has truly seen and experienced.
One
recent occasion was as we stepped out into Afon Merch for our fourth gorge walk
of the week whilst delivering activities for Christian Youth Camps based in
North Wales.
Overnight
rain in abundance had meant that the gorge was raging and our morning trip was
unable to fulfil the ‘chimney climb’ due to the force of the thundering falls;
by the afternoon however a little subsidence meant that the older youth had the
opportunity of challenge.
Standing
waiting for safety ropes to be put in place, in what can only be described as
an ‘open cave’, dark, cold walls could be seen to be overpowered by the
cascading water and the bright sunlight that shone through.
In what
seemed very harsh and unforgiving surroundings, what was evident was a
reflection of the character of our Creator God. The sun’s beams bouncing off the
many droplets of water a reminder of the cleansing love of Jesus and the light
of His life bringing warmth and healing. An overwhelming, and very much
privileged moment, that pictures and words could never really do justice to; a
moment to be held with great affection and gratitude – a moment to ‘be still
and know’ a real presence of God …
‘Let us become more aware of Your presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
… where my heart becomes free
and my shame is undone
To be overcome by Your presence Lord’
